Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has suspended his campaign for governor.
Yost leaves the race a week after the Ohio Republican Party Central Committee opted to endorse biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Ramaswamy has been endorsed by President Donald Trump.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Yost had lobbied the party to delay making an endorsement one year before the 2026 primary election.
In a statement to supporters, Yost said he doesn鈥檛 want to divide the Republican Party or the state of Ohio 鈥渨ith a quixotic battle over the small differences between my vision and that of my opponent.鈥 Yost added, 鈥淚 am simply not that important.鈥
Yost in his message to supporters also bashed former Ohio Senator Democrat Sherrod Brown, saying his 鈥渃omeback attempt鈥 is a 鈥渞eal and present danger to Ohio鈥檚 prosperity.鈥
鈥淐olumbus needs re-engineering, not demolition. Sherrod Brown and the risky progressive ideas of his party will unwind all of the good that the last 15 years of Republican leadership has brought,鈥 Yost wrote.
Yost鈥檚 term as Attorney General runs through January 2027.
